DANNY BARBER

Danny is known throughout the music world for his powerful trumpet
playing. He began playing professionally at the tender age of 15. After
playing for several big bands and ensembles, he auditioned for the
United States Army Jazz Ensemble and was accepted. He was all of
19 years old. After his first year he took over the first trumpet position.
He toured the U.S. performing in concert halls, colleges and high
schools, and earned an honorable discharge from the Army and the
Meritorious Service Award.
Danny was a member of the Dorsey Band as well as the Maynard
Ferguson band. He toured and recorded with the Maynard Ferguson
band for three years from 1977 to 1979. During this time Danny also
became well known in the midwest jazz scene playing at many venues
such as the Mill Run Theater in Chicago and the Playboy Club in Lake
Geneva, Wisconsin. Danny has played in many pit orchestras and as
a first call trumpeter for many recording sessions such as Fiddler on
the Roof, Man of LaMancha, Bye, Bye Birdie, West Side Story, Chicago,
Annie and Grease. He also played on the Chicago Jazz Orchestra’s
much lauded recording of George Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess, which
featured famed trumpeter Clark Terry. He has also played for many
years as lead trumpet for a long list of entertainers at the popular
Holiday Star Theater in Merrillville, Indiana.
Danny has played for some of the most well -known entertainers in the
business. A partial list of those names includes: Doc Severinsen,
Clark Terry, Tony Bennett, Benny Goodman, Phil Woods, Frank Sinatra,
Sr. (and also Frank Jr.), Rosemary Clooney, Dionne Warwick, Johnny
Mathis, Burt Bacharach, Joni Mitchell, Dennis DeYoung and Bernadette
Peters. Danny has also recorded with many symphony orchestras
throughout the country, and has played on over 2,000 radio and
television commercials.
Danny was a charter member of the Jazz Members Big Band, the
precursor to Jeff Lindberg’s Chicago Jazz Orchestra, and remains an
indispensable member of the orchestra as lead trumpet chair.
Danny gives private lessons in the Chicago and South Bend, Indiana
areas and runs clinics and master classes in addition to performing
as a featured soloist.
